10/9/11

I finished my second round of chemo on Friday. I am still a little tired today but did manage a 5 mile run this afternoon.

This weekend we began Sarah's birthday celebration. I say "began" because this is generally a two week event. All the kids were in and we had a great day at Keeneland yesterday. For those you not familiar with Keeneland, it is a thoroughbred race track in Lexington. The other thing you need to know is that when I say we had a "great" day you need to read that I did not lose too much money.

I heard from Duke this week and while admittance into the immunotherapy trial is still pending, I will be going back down there on October 24th for a checkup. The next really big date for me is October 17th. That is my next MRI.

For those of you running in the mini, there is only one month to go. I would really like to hear a) how your training is going and b) what is your best excuse for not running or having a slower time than you expected.

We are getting close.

Thanks for caring.

  1. So Bobby and I got up to run in a practice half-marathon this morning. We were out the door at 5:45. The was call "See Jane Run". I was going to run at least 10 - Bobby was going to see how far he could go. Then rain hit Central Texas after MONTHS of drought. We got inches of rain and so much lightning that the Austin Police Department suggested that the race be cancelled. At 6:45 we got word that it was cancelled. At 7:15 the lightning stopped. Both of us were bummed. Bobby is at the track running now. I just mapped out my run for the morning. We are looking forward to running/walking with everyone.

    All my love
    Chris

  2. Thanks for all of the updates.
    Regarding your questions:
    a) Training is going well. 20 miles yesterday in the rain. Only lost my chain once.
    b) Excuse for not running or slower pace - Stephanie and I are pregnant.

  3. Pregnant..with your grandchild.

All other excuses are officially trumped, but still fun to read.

  4. Thank you for the update. All sounds good.

About the running (walking). Almost did 5 miles on Sat, but we had all of this rain come in.

The other excuse, I can't seem to recover from the news about Abraham and Sarah, I mean Bob and Stephanie, being pregnant. (Sorry, Stephanie.)

  6. Kristyne Blackburn, a friend of ours, is riding 65 or 90 miles on Sunday in the LiveStrong Austin Challenge with Uncle Bill's name on her wristband. Love from a stranger.

  8. So I went out to run 10 miles this morning and was happy to find that the lake I usually run around (5 mile circuit) was the tail end of the Nike women's marathon course today. So I was able to join the crowd at mile 20 -- which turned out to be the perfect pace. I got the benefit of all the community folks cheering on the runners -- not to mention the water station, the chocolate station and the high school drum corps.

I actually ran my two laps around the lake and finished the 10 miles -- so 13 is feeling within my grasp in 3 weeks.

Now I'm ready for a beer and a nap -- I'll be toasting to and then dreaming of a good MRI for you tomorrow. Look forward to seeing y'all soon.

  9. Cliff that is a great story. Of course you deserve a beer and a nap. By the way I had a text from Mather about 4 hours ago that said he was going out to run 13. I have not heard back since.
